Another Win Against Face Surveillance

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Friend,

After so much bleak news, it’s so nice to celebrate a win. That’s why we’re so eager to applaud our friends at the ACLU for a landmark settlement, banning the facial recognition firm Clearview AI in Illinois.

The settlement goes even further, banning all sales of Clearview’s notorious software to private companies. Clearview gained international notoriety for stealing billions of photos from across the internet to build its biometric software. While we join others committing ourselves to a complete, national ban on facial recognition, the ACLU deserves our thanks for once again safeguarding our Constitution.

Illinois has long been ahead of the curve in protecting residents from biometric surveillance, but it’s time for the rest of the country to catch up, including New York. And the need couldn’t be more urgent. After the Supreme Court leak, we fear it’s only a matter of weeks before police in states hostile to reproductive rights use Clearview AI to enforce abortion bans.

If you want New York to join the growing list of jurisdictions banning facial recognition, join our Ban The Scan petition today.

In solidarity,
Albert Fox Cahn
Executive Director
