From Wegmans to Madison Square Garden, businesses across NYC are employing biometric surveillance methods to identify, track, and monitor New Yorkers. That’s why we hosted our Biometric Map Training this past Wednesday, on how to use S.T.O.P.'s community-sourced Biometric Map to report sites of facial recognition, palm scans, and more surveillance tools across NYC.
Community-collected data empowers us all to fight back against discriminatory forms of surveillance. With our Biometric Map, New Yorkers can:

Identify sites of biometric surveillance,

Submit photos of signs posted in places of public accommodation,

And use the public map to navigate the city.
By sourcing information about where surveillance happens, we can all raise awareness regarding the spread of biometric identifiers, enable New Yorkers to make informed decisions about exposure to surveillance, and prompt legislative action that enacts meaningful change to protect privacy.
