About S.T.O.P.

The Surveillance Technology Oversight Project (S.T.O.P.) is a 501(C)(3) legal services provider, bringing high profile impact cases that challenge the civil rights threat from emerging technologies. Our work primarily targets state police, local police, and ICE’s abuse of biased technologies. Over the past seven-year, we successfully brought first-in-the-nation challenges, securing major policy changes from the NYPD and tens of millions of dollars in settlement. Last year alone we secured $44 million for class members.

S.T.O.P. Litigation Advisory Council

The Litigation Advisory Council is the latest addition to the S.T.O.P. team — a network of experienced litigators who can support S.T.O.P.’s growing impact docket through a very modest time commitment. As S.T.O.P. continues to bring cases on the cutting edge of civil rights and emerging technology, we’re seeking lawyers we can turn to for ongoing consultation on case strategy and trial tactics. LAC members would not be asked to co-counsel matters, with time commitment limited to approximately 1-3 hours a month.

The LAC is an easy and exciting way to get involved in the fight against dystopian misuse of technology — we want your passion, experience, and only a modest time commitment.

From public interest lawyers, to big law partners, litigation boutique counsel, and experienced solo practitioners, we’re seeking  5-10 members for the first year. This is going to be an exceptional opportunity for people to get in on the ground floor of a new initiative where we’re going to be developing a new model of public interest legal partnership. This is a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of privacy and Fourth Amendment litigation, connect with other leading litigators, and expand your professional network.
