Mozilla Festival: Strategic Organizing Against Border Tech

Emerging technologies, including data-driven surveillance systems have been tested on and disproportionately impact forcibly displaced persons and migrants. Many of these technologies operate in opaque and covert ways. There is lack of awareness among the general population on the ways in which border surveillance technologies are being used to violently pushback, deport, and displace people.

To address the pervasiveness and reach of these technologies we must build a diverse coalition of civil society actors working on addressing technology-facilitated violations of forcibly displaced persons' and migrants' rights. During this session, participants will collaborate on developing strategies to proactively address and work towards the abolishment of border tech that is inherently violent, racist, and oppressive. Specifically, participants will identify short and medium term opportunities to drive collective action to address tech-facilitated violations of the rights of forcibly displace persons and migrants.
