Don't Let Sleeping Robot Dogs Lie

Like many of you, we were shocked when the NYPD introduced the world to Digidog, the four-legged drone that looks like it’s fresh off the set of Black Mirror or the Twilight Zone.

Not only was Digidog expensive, not only was it invasive, but it was positively creepy. Bystander videos brought waves of objections to the dystopian doggie, and only a few months after S.T.O.P. first voiced our opposition, Digidog was off to a farm upstate.

The NYPD may think that they can throw us a bone by stopping this one program, but this is just the start. It’s great that New Yorkers won’t be on the hook for Digidog’s $94,000 price tag, but the NYPD continues to waste millions on biased and dangerous tools like facial recognition.

That’s why we’re asking you to join us in calling on Albany to end facial recognition in New York State. Getting one robot off the streets is a start, but dismantling the thousands of facial recognition cameras that encircle our communities is a long-overdue next step. Please take a moment to sign our petition or write a letter to your state lawmaker.

With thanks,
Albert Fox Cahn, Esq.
Executive Director
