I’m used to having disagreements with Mayor Adams about his tech policies, but today was different. When the Mayor was asked about the latest round of criticism over his use of AI, he chose not to focus on the critiques, but on the critic, attacking me for 3 minutes in front of the City Hall press corps.

The disagreement came a day after I pushed back against the mayor’s creation of deepfake robocalls, pre-recorded phone messages that use artificial intelligence to make it sound like the mayor speaks dozens of different languages he doesn’t really know.

It’s chilling to see the most powerful mayor in the country take aim at our work at S.T.O.P. like this. But I also know that we’re not going to back down. The only reason why we’re able to take on Adams and the largest police force in the country is because the supporters who invest in our work.
