We Sued Amazon Yesterday

*|MC:SUBJECT|*

Friend,

From Ring by Neighbors to video monitoring its delivery drivers, Amazon has long been the face of dystopian surveillance. Amazon’s growing use of biometric surveillance, such as palm-print scanning, is yet another creepy move by the company. That’s why yesterday we joined Peter Romer-Friedman Law PLLC and Pollock Cohen LLP in suing Amazon for failing to disclose its biometric surveillance.

In 2021, we fought to pass one of the country’s first biometric privacy laws here in New York City, requiring companies to warn the public about biometric surveillance. We’re proud to now be able to use this same law to hold companies accountable, filing one of the first cases ever brought under the legislation.

No company is above the law; no tech giant is “too big to sue.” New Yorkers have a right to control our biometric data, and we will fight for all of those whose information has already been taken. Beyond this one company, this one case, we will continue to fight for the day when New Yorkers can walk the streets without fearing that their own bodies can be used as a tracking tool against them.

In solidarity,
Albert Fox Cahn
Executive Director
