UPDATED: Electeds, Advocates Rally Against Facial Recognition Before City Council Hearing On Bans

(NEW YORK, NY, 5/2/2023) – On Wednesday, May 3rd at 11:30 AM EST the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project (S.T.O.P.), Ban The Scan Coalition, Amnesty International USA, NYCLU, Fight For The Future, National Action Network, Freedom To Thrive, Office of NYS Senator Jabari Brisport, Main Street Alliance, and Council Members Shahana Hanif, Jennifer Gutiérrez, Pierina Sanchez, Carlina Rivera, Nantasha Williams, Farah Louis, and Christopher Marte will rally against facial recognition ahead of a City Council hearing on proposed bans. At 1:00 PM, The New York City Council Technology and Civil and Human Rights committees will hold a hearing on two pieces of legislation, one banning facial recognition and other biometric technologies in residential buildings, and one banning the technology in places of public accommodation, such as stores and sports arenas.
