S.T.O.P. Reflects On Post-9/11 Surveillance

(NEW YORK, NY, 9/7/2023) - On Monday, September 11th from 8 AM – 6 PM EST the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project (S.T.O.P.) will be available for comment about the rapid expansion of facial recognition, location tracking, and other forms of surveillance in the 22 years since the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Over the past generation, surveillance has become one of democracy’s greatest threats, stifling freedom of speech, religion, and other civil liberties. These technologies are deeply discriminatory, disproportionately targeting BIPOC communities and anti-racist protesters.
