Deleting Deportation Data

Deleting Deportation Data
Friend,

This week, S.T.O.P. released our latest research report, Deportation Data Centers, detailing how fusion centers let ICE coopt local police data, circumventing sanctuary cities’ protections. The Department of Homeland Security’s fusion center network promotes collaboration among local, state, and federal law enforcement.

Every year, fusion centers waste hundreds of millions of dollars, all without ever stopping a single, solitary plot. But while fusion centers may be a bust on national security, they are ripe for abuse in almost every other area of life. Fusion centers let officers routinely violate state and local civil rights laws without consequence. Cities and states must protect undocumented residents by ending these dangerous surveillance partnerships.

We can’t both have a sanctuary city and a surveillance state. Here in New York, lawmakers must act to block the cooperation with ICE that they claim to oppose. You can help by using this tool from our friends at NYCLU to call on lawmakers to pass the New York For All Act today, barring state and local agencies from colluding with or sharing data with ICE.

In solidarity,
Eleni Manis
Research Director
